Professor Dr Anam Kour

Professor Dr Anam Kour has a 38 year medical career spanning primary health care services, specialist orthopaedic surgery, hand & reconstructive microsurgery. He has also served as a university academician and professor, and as an executive in medical organizations.  He has specialty training at Harvard, USA in hand and reconstructive surgery. He has added specialty training in Ilizarov surgery in Italy. He has taken a specialty interest in reconstructive orthopaedic surgery and in orthopaedic oncology, microsurgical free tissue reconstruction, and limb reconstruction with the Ilizarov technique. He has extensively served as an executive officer in medical centres.

He has been providing tertiary level consultations to orthopaedic specialists at the Sarawak General Hospital, Normah Specialist Medical Centre and Timberland Medical Center in the areas of musculoskeletal surgery, hand surgery, reconstructive orthopaedic surgery, and Ilizarov surgery.  He has also initiated the multi-disciplinary journal club sessions at the UNIMAS Department of Orthopedics 2009. He started the Masters Candidates Lecture series at the Sarawak General Hospital for Masters’ candidates, medical officers, and house officers 2009. He initiated the research program and setting up research protocols in the areas of nutrition in musculoskeletal tumour patients, tumour monitoring during chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and effects of chemotherapeutic agent Ifosfomide on neuro-cognitive functions.  He has engaged in establishing the “Continuing Nursing Education” at UNIMAS with Trauma OT of Sarawak General Hospital. He was also the UNIMAS Nursing Program Lecturer for year II students. His research interests:

  1. Hand surgery and reconstructive upper limb surgery
  2. Reconstructive Ilizarov surgery
  3. Quality of Life of primary caregivers in Cerebral Palsy
  4. Upper Limb functions in Cerebral palsy

 Professor Anam Kour has following Research Projects up his sleeves:

  6. Engaged in Continuing Medical Education at Normah Specialist Hospital and Timberland Medical Centre
  7. Involvement in community work  in management of cerebral palsy children
  8. Volunteer services for Tzu Chi International Medical Association and National Kidney Foundation with pro bono AVF surgeries in renal failure patients
  9. Pro bono services in reconstructive orthopaedic surgeries for dedicated cases from Sarawak, Sabah, and Kalimantan
  10. Medical specialist volunteer at Ji Min Moral Uplifting Society, Tawau.

 Professor Dr Anam Kour has extensive prior teaching and learning contribution in the anti-aging and preventive medicine, crossing over 5 decades of work.
